MORE About this rum
Legend has it that Columbus named Portobelo as soon as he saw it. The color of its deep blue sea, the white of its beaches, along with the intense green of its forests and mangroves, deserve no other name: it is a beautiful port.
The town of San Felipe de Portobelo was founded in 1597 as a Caribbean Terminal of the trail through the Isthmus of Panama as a port of transit and trans-shipment. This activity required the Spanish Empire to build military fortifications to protect themselves from pirates lurking.
These magnificent constructions still remain as historic landmarks in Panama’s Caribbean coast.
Portobelo rum is a creation inspired in its history full of adventures and a balance between nature’s beauty and human creativity.
Our rum is manufactured in Panama where we employ old-fashioned methods, utilizing the byproduct of sugarcane and molasses that are fermented, distilled, and aged in old aged-toasted barrels that produce a unique smooth flavor profile to the rum.
